I love cabbage. So, every year I try to share a new twist on this Thanksgiving classic—small, medjole-sweet, sweet potatoes—and this year I don’t want to miss it. This might actually be my favorite change this year! Definitely the nicest change. When the idea of chocolate pompin cake came to me honestly, I was a fool for not trying it sooner. Pumpkin + chocolate = really yummy. Fragrant chocolate cake = so delicious. And this chocolate chip cookie = WORD YUM.

This year I’m embracing gratitude for the first time in a long time. I am very happy. My dad, mom, brother and sister come to stay with us at our house on weekends. No Bake Chocolate Pie
Today I am sharing this post about Bourbon Chocolate Cupcakes. You see, the food blogging community lost one of its own last week when Joan from Chocolate, Chocolate and More died suddenly of a heart attack in her sleep. To honor her memory, the food blogging community is using today as National Chocolate Day to show everyone, especially her children, how much she is loved and missed.
I don’t know Joan well. I follow her on Instagram and she’s part of a few groups on Facebook. She is very successful as a blogger and seems very passionate and willing to help other bloggers. When news of his death hit the blogging community, there were posts about how amazing he was. It touched many people.
I had the opportunity to meet Joan once. This was during the 2014 International Food Blogging Conference in Seattle. We went to dinner together and it was great. One vivid memory is that we all ordered the Baked Alaska for dessert and ordered another dish on the menu because it had chocolate in it, at least. He described it as chocolate. I still remember the look on his face when he took his first bite and replied, “It’s good, but not a chocolate dessert.” I laughed, that woman loves chocolate.

When I baked the bourbon chocolate brownie, I was hoping to make a chocolate dessert that Joan loved. I wanted to make sure there was chocolate on every side, so I had chocolate chip cookies and some cocoa and cocoa nibs. I also threw in some bourbon, because I hear Joan likes her chocolate, and every morsel is covered in chocolate sauce.
This bourbon chocolate chip cookie is a beautiful, rich, chocolate-filled dessert that I think will make Joan say, “Now that’s chocolatey!” They say.

Recipe For Homemade Pumpkin Spice White Hot Chocolate (so Good!)
Recipe updated 11/14/2017: As for the bourbon in this Bourbon Chocolate Chowder, I recommend 1-3 tablespoons. The first time I made it, I used 1 tablespoon of bourbon. I added 3 tablespoons of bourbon to give it a little extra flavor, which I recommend doing if you’re a big bourbon fan.
