We’ve been pretty much into Thanksgiving planning around here lately. Meaty turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, pie and the infamous sweet potato casserole. I’m not lying, it’s considered a good table, but I still miss this year after year, when we call it a ‘vegetable side dish’.
Sweet Potato Casserole has many variations and this one is always a favorite. Is it really the wrong way to eat sweet potatoes, brown sugar, butter, and marshmallows? We don’t think so. Can we all agree to stop telling kids that sweet potatoes are healthy? We would like to get rid of it in a few years before they realize that there is real nutrition in this food. The Best Sweet Potato Casserole Recipe
In the United States, the terms “Sweet Potato” and “Yam” are used interchangeably to refer to a potato with red skin and orange flesh. However, you’ve probably seen something else labeled as pale yellow-white sweet potatoes at the grocery store, while your orange-fleshed variety is labeled as yams. Guess what? Both sweet potatoes! Solanum Solanus GENERAL, what you think of as a sweet potato, is simply a sweet potato with a dark skin. You don’t usually find real yams in an American grocery store. True yams have brown or black skin, while the flesh is either red, purple, or white.
We prefer sweet potato wedges in tuna, both for flavor and color! But you can use either grilled or white sweet potato.
The marshes are a little too big for sweet potato tuna and hard to eat and even burn. We love the ratio of the gooey center to the crunchy outside in the mini marshmallows, and I suggest you stick with the mini variety. If you only have large marshmallows and in a pinch, use clean kitchen tongs and cut them into small pieces for the frosting. Spraying the cutters with non-stick cooking spray will help with any sticking problems.
Sweet Potato Mash With Roasted Blueberries And Toasted Marshmallows
This recipe is written for raw sweet potatoes and we highly recommend using them for the best flavor. If you have everything canned, we can work with it! Simply skip the second step of the recipe where you cook the sweet potatoes. But carefully drain the canned tincture and mix it with the other ingredients and put it in the dish to cook. You need 1 1/2 to 2 pounds total, but you can always get it back if needed.
Store any leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days and simply reheat in the microwave in 30 second increments until warm. If you want to reheat a large batch at once, you can put the entire dish in an oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit until heated through.
