Make Lasagna With Cottage Cheese
Make Lasagna With Cottage Cheese – Grab your loved ones and treat them to this rich, creamy Maskaas lasagna. It’s the sweetest way to say “I love you”.
Early last month, I huddled in a small consulting room at our local hospital, surrounded by my closest family. We waited. My mother had a heart condition and the operation was already taking longer than expected. My stomach had the requisite knot that seems to be standard for every hospital waiting room. The room was tense, broken by nervous laughter and the welcome distraction of a happy, troubled year.

Dr. finally he walked in and we all took a moment to search his face for clues. With kind eyes and a warm smile he informed us that the mother was recovering from an unusually long and difficult operation. What was supposed to be a routine cat to check for a blockage he wasn’t even sure about turned into a painstaking 3 1/2 hour effort to clear three serious blockages.

Our family sat back, relieved and stunned, as the doctor told us he was shocked my mother didn’t have a heart attack weeks ago. She was an anomaly—a patient whose blood had returned to normal, who nearly passed two endurance tests, and who would have been sent home that morning if it hadn’t been for the persistence and intuition of one of the doctors.
Instead, he had surgery. Difficult operation, but successful. I consider it a miracle that he didn’t have a heart attack, that they found the blockages when they did, and that it was completely reversible. I held my mother’s hand that night in the recovery room and I thought of all the clichés you hear at a time like this, and I felt them all. Life is short and precious. Don’t take it for granted. It’s a gift and we can’t keep it forever.
No one wishes for these kinds of fears, but it gives you a conscious gratitude, the kind you decide to practice instead of just passively feeling. The next time you sit down at the table with your family, be a little more intentional, pay a little more attention. Dad’s voice breaks during the prayer, and when you lift your head, there’s a twinkle in everyone’s eyes. You enjoy the smell of the dishes going by, the easy conversation, the light in your mother’s eyes when your son gives her one of his rare, genuine, wet and sloppy kisses.
Easy Skillet Lasagna Recipe
This Christmas we will be serving Mom’s cottage cheese lasagna, a dish she has been making and sharing for many years. I think it’s the best lasagna in the world, and it’s not just post-crisis nostalgia and gratitude talking. Mom’s lasagna has two things that set it apart from the rest of the pack, and of course it’s all about the cheese. In this case, cottage cheese and Swiss cheese.
I know you cottage cheese haters are gagging right now, but I promise there is nothing offensive about cottage cheese lasagna. You don’t really taste the cottage cheese, but it gives the filling a less smooth, creamier texture that everyone, even the haters, will appreciate.
And then there’s the Swiss cheese. It’s far from traditional, but it works very well. A blend of Swiss and mozzarella has all the sweet, dry and melty flavor a lasagna needs. Even if you’re a bit weirder than the Swiss in your lasagna, JUST DO IT. I don’t want to shout, but this is important.
Easy No Boil Homemade Lasagna With Cottage Cheese
Lasagna isn’t exactly known for being easy to make, but this Cottage Cheese Lasagna is definitely manageable for the holidays. I always think of baking, stacking and sprinkling as a labor of love. A baked dish full of meaty, cheesy lasagne always feels special and extravagant, firstly because it takes effort to make and secondly because it is incredibly delicious and comforting.
It’s the kind of meal that makes you want to gather your loved ones together, hold hands, say goodbye and eat together. This is the kind of dish that fills your stomach and your heart. I would love for you to share your mom’s lasagna with your family and come to the table this holiday with your eyes open to the blessings of being together.

Lasagna is a holiday tradition in our house. Growing up, I disliked the traditional holiday turkey and dress-up dinners. My mom used to make lasagna the night before the holiday so I could have the leftover lasagna for my holiday dinner. These days I eat the holiday turkey dinner but we still have lasagna the night before. This Million Dollar Lasagna recipe is a favorite. Topped with meat sauce and four kinds of ooey gooey cheese!
This million dollar lasagna is very simple to make. Start by cooking the noodles. While the noodles are cooking, brown the Italian sausage. Add a jar of spaghetti sauce and some tomato sauce to the cooked sausage and simmer for 5 or 10 minutes. This will thicken the sauce so your lasagna is not watery.

While the sauce is simmering, stir in the cheese filling. The filling is a combination of cream cheese, sour cream and cottage cheese.
To assemble the lasagna, add ½ of the noodles, ½ of the cheese mixture, ⅓ of the mozzarella cheese, ½ of the meat sauce and ½ of the parmesan. Repeat the layers and cover the casserole with a layer of mozzarella cheese slices.
This Million Dollar Lasagna is a great make-ahead meal. You can assemble the lasagna the night before and refrigerate or freeze until ready to bake. Leftovers also freeze well. I like to cut leftovers into individual slices before freezing. I wrap the slices in plastic wrap and place them in freezer bags. Perfect for when you just need a slice or two for dinner.
